Trojan SAES AGM Battery

Trojan’s Sealed-AES (SAES) line of AGM batteries are designed to be extremely rugged. Trojan claims they can handle multiple complete discharges to zero State-Of-Charge (SOC), and they can be left sitting at partial SOC for extended periods of time without sulphating. The stated temperature range for use is -40 Centigrade (-40F) through +60 Centigrade (140F). At 50% discharge cycles an expected 3000+ cycles are expected, resulting in a useful design life of 8 to 10 years.

Trojan is not disclosing how they do this, but it looks like they are adding carbon to the negative plates to get this kind of ruggedness, making this effectively a lead-carbon battery.

Trojan recommends the following charge settings (based on 12 Volt, multiply as needed):

Bulk / Absorb Voltage: 14.4 Volt
Float Voltage: 13.5 Volt
No equalize, disable or set to 14.4 Volt
Temperature coefficient: -5 mV/degree-C

Absorb time is calculated as:

Hours = 0.42 * Amp-hour-capacity / Charge-current

A variety of Trojan SAES AGM batteries are available, in both 6 and 12 Volt formats. There are versions in golf-cart and L16 format, as well as a few others.
